The Blue Bird - a magical new adaptation
Saffron Beagley has composed an original score inspired by Maurice Maeterlinck's
enchanting story of two children who are in search of a blue bird,
said
to be the only cure for a little girl who is dying. It is brought
to you as a vibrant and mystical, musical shadow puppet performance. This
piece combines music, story-telling and puppetry to create an enthralling,
magical performance, where the interplay of the contrasting elements
sparks ever-increasing intensity.
Performing live, in conjunction with Armchair
Puppet Theatre, Saffron's Silhouette Ensemble will bring the visuals
to life with a live soundtrack that includes character themes and lyrical
improvisations, mixed with song, sound effects, and story-telling.
The magical element in this story lends itself to shadow puppetry,
which excites the imagination and succeeds in conjuring a mystical
sense.
Every audience will find this adaptation of The Blue Bird poignant, touching,
and gently humorous. Few could fail to be thrilled by the unique blend
of sounds - jazz, classical and world music influences - mixed with stunning
and exciting imagery.

Participate in the joy and exhilaration of this arts collaboration for yourself
In creating The Blue Bird, performers from different disciplines were able to work in a fluid and free way. Inspired by this process and amazed by the development in our work through collaborating artistically, we want to share this experience and are offering a creative workshop based on the story of Hanuman. Participants will have the opportunity to communicate with another artistic discipline whilst having the story-line as a thread to guide the creativity.
